Opening the MSR Setup Utility
Before you begin, make sure that the reader unit is installed and the computer and the reader are connected to the same power source.
First, press the Apply Button to prepare the reader for use.
Once you have finished pressing the Apply Button, click OK to accept the instructions.
Depending on the reader model, this may be the last step of the procedure or may appear as an initial step during the setup process.
Connecting the MSR Reader to the Computer:
After the reader is set up and ready to use, you need to connect the reader to your computer.
First, open the Start Menu, select the Control Panel, and click the My Computer icon.
Double-click on the Reader Device Icon to open the Properties dialog.
Click the Connect Tab.
Click the Connect button.
A dialog box will appear.
This dialog box will appear again when the connection process is complete.
Specify the MSR ID that corresponds to the Reader Unit on the MSR box, then click OK.
You can find your MSR ID by following the directions of the MSR Installation software or by contacting MSR Customer Service Center.

For MSR hardware, the serial number will appear under the Hardware Connection Tab.
This Serial Number (for any MSR equipment) will remain the same throughout the installation, configuration, and runtime of the Software.
Click OK to apply the settings.
Back on the MSR Properties screen, click the Update tab.
Read the screen as described above.
